PostSubject: Jonaethiel Baelvin   Jonaethiel Baelvin EmptyMon Dec 09, 2013 5:25 am

Name: Jonaethiel Baelvin, Doge of the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
(fondly addressed as Jonae)
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 31

Family: no noteworthy family (whereabouts of parents unkown)
Height/Weight: 1’88m and 86kg
Body Description: transitional between bulk and chubby, remnants of a once healthy and muscular body slowly fading as diplomacy and politics replace the life of an ardent young sailor with countless nights spent in the study burning the midnight oil.
Hair/Eyes Colour: thick coppery orange hair that reaches down to the man’s earlobe, usually strewn wildly, for formal occasions this tuft of rich hair is tied back with a small band, a lasting tribute to the sailor’s life Jonae left behind when establishing his first city. A bushy beard of equal ferocity garnishes his face, often kept clean and brushed. The man’s eyes are deep dark emeralds. Back in his prime, his fellows told stories of how the young lad’s eyes sparkled with the radiance and life of emerald jewels. Now though, whether due to stress of constant governance or simple ageing, these green orbs have been speckled with grey, encapsulating little grey stars within a blanketing sky of green.

Likes: Joneathiel treasures diplomacy, sound reason and the uncorruptable wisdom held in plans and structures. He is very much a people person, finding it important to be amongst people who hold new knowledge and come from different walks of life. Jonaethiel has however been known to enjoy a little escapade to his study for days on end. Race or creed has never really played much of a role to Jonae. All are equal in his eyes until they forfeit their right to this respect. Though most comfortable in the whirlwind of buildings and events rising up from the ground around him, he does have a fondness for quietly fishing on a serene river bank when duties allow it.

Dislikes: Jonae dislikes boisterous nothing-but-hot-air buffoons. This should not be mistook for a disregard to authority, but rather as a view which means that everyone will be challenged to present them with an opportunity to prove themselves worthy of the respect and authority they bear. Nothing aggravates Jonae more than people abusing power, real or feigned, and thwarting this onto other. A healthy dislike for conflict may also be counted amongst the man’s dislikes.

Personality: “A clam man” – If there was a trait that outshines all of the others and has left the biggest mark on those who have interacted with Jonae, it is the man’s un-quenching tranquillity of mind. Fools have previously mistook this for boundless compassion and therefore weakness, but that is not the case. Jonaehtiel of Helvetica possesses a skill that has helped people appreciate him as a leader and Doge (major) of Helvetica: Cold and calm calculation, up until which he bestows upon any and all the respect of a friend. Friends, strangers and enemies alike have stood before him, and have all been treated with the utmost respect, even when bearing terrifying messages. Jonaethiel possesses ability to calmly and rationally process any onslaught of information that sweeps over him; a trait which admittedly he did not always possess, but rather developed as his role of leadership, major and later doge of a metropolitan city slid onto his shoulders.

Jonae and Jonaethiel of Helvetica are two very different persona. When under official jurisdiction the man is friendly yet stern, believing that the rules apply to all and any situation: “No civilisation can be built upon flexible foundations”. In private however Jonae is still the young sailor lad who once set foot in southern Caerdia and together with his companion decided to establish themselves. He enjoys a good laugh and a bottomless tankard of ale like any other citizen. Different to his more serious imago of doge, Jonae personally believes that a bit of mischief and spark is always good to breathe some life back into situations that could otherwise turn sour and detached.

Talent: When one throws about the title “engineer” the populace of the 5(?) worlds immediately conjures up images of redstone geniuses, mechanical structures that churn and groan in immense feats of ingenuity. Few however think of an engineer in a more environmental light: An engineer of space and the use thereof, a civil-engineer. That is what Jonaethiel of Helvetica is, and excels in. Jonae’s skill is in seeing the land for what it has to offer, without disgustingly abusing the land to force shapes and structures into it that harshly fulfil our needs at the sacrifice of the natural environment that others enjoy around us.

The drawback on the man’s talent is that such special planning only comes to fruition with authority, and that is one factor that Jonae does not possess outside the sphere of influence of the City State of Helvetica. While within and around the city the land is shaped and used successfully and respectfully, Jonaethiel has often had to fight with the disappointment of such concepts and plans failing in the wider world due to a lack of authority to inspire confidence and trust in the eyes of others. While devastating to him, recent pondering late nights in the confines of his rich study have led Jonae to decided that such respect and trust from others is something that can be gained, if worked for and sought after in the bustling capital of Regalia.

Strengths: Unparalleled diplomat, helped greatly by his and his city’s unrelenting neutral stance in global politics. Jonae’s friendly, learned and calm mannerism has helped in countless diplomatic situations, often avoiding needless bloodshed or conflict by listening and reasoning with the mature mind of a diplomat.

Weaknesses: Jonaethiel fears internal discontent the most. This manifests itself in all forms and meanings: He holds his city dear, and discontent amongst his people is heart-cushing, so much so that after past struggles the Doge has been known to lock himself up in his study for days on end. The same goes for friends. It has however manifested itself that Jonaethiel in his fear for disappointing and unsettling his friends has unknowingly strained these very same friendships with persistent worrying and stressful behaviour. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy the fear creates the scenario which it is running away from.

Jonae is also known to have a frightful disdain for fighting and combat. So much so that in some cases he has simply taken a beating or wound from refusing to even attempt to fight. Built strong from a profession as builder he can wield a mallet and pickaxe like a true master-mason, but put a weapon in the man’s hands and he is most likely to end up causing damage to the wrong party.

Weapon of Choice: An acute mind and if that fails, a good construction-hardened mallet

Sexuality: Straight, though his position within his city has left Jonaethiel subconsciously feeling like he does not have enough time to devote himself to his people AND the special Lady that will one day undoubtedly conquer his heart.

Relationships: no significant ones as of yet

Life Story:
Early Life: ~~~

Growing up: At the age of 12 Jonaethiel was still a street urchin in the bustling capital of Caerdia, SilverEdge. Who his parents were and where they lived was of no relevance to the young boy when both intimidating survival and captivating adventure were out there in the city’s streets. Though it certainly would have been easier and more lucrative, the young boy never turned to crime, instead working hard on daily tasks that the busy merchants and city-folk refused to do themselves. These tasks were menial labour, but to the boy they provided a framework with which to further explore the city. These tasks, while at the bottom of the city’s food chain did grant someone of Jonae’s walk of life access and opportunities in previously unreachable districts.

As with anything though, there came a point (around the age of 16) that the young boy’s dreams and ambitions outgrew the boundaries of SilverEdge. Still having no credentials to his name though the land beyond the city’s walls were out of reach to the fast growing boy. Elder patrons of the port taverns and merchants alike had revealed to him though that the land of Caerdia had fallen to corruption. They recommended that the boy seek adventure elsewhere, for the land here needed to recover. Incited or inspired, Jonae sought work aboard a merchant vessel headed for Ellador, and so began a new chapter in the boy’s life.

New Beginnings: Ellador changed everything for the young man: Here were untamed lands, walls that had not seen him before, alleys and shadows that held no memory of him. For all intents and purposes he was born anew here.

His time aboard the <Ship Name> had been exceptional as well. The captain of the merchant vessel had been of noble decent, a lord of a faraway city. For all that he was considered noble he did not hold his rank over the heads of his subordinates. Instead they obeyed and served out of respect. The concept had baffled the young boy, used to beatings and enforced rank and status, but would forever remain with him. The captain saw potential in the young man’s eager emerald eyes, saw an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Not knowledge that would make him stand taller above others but rather knowledge that he would sow around him, helping others with it. Next to his duties on the merchant vessel Jonae was invited by the captain’s entourage of scholars and elders to join them when they spent the day copying texts by candlelight in the ship’s hull, or having avid discussions about varying concepts that each of the learned men held as the ultimate truth. It was here that Jonaethiel learnt a lot about the ongoings of the world he had never before dreamed he would be allowed to enter.
